Polls and Surveys

Everyone LOVES to take polls and surveys, but few yearbook staffs take the time to do them each year. Let's change that...

Watch this brief video lesson with the WHY of doing this (get interactive with your audience and more,) and the HOW to do this (old way or new way, either works.)   All that great info for this unique school year will really improve the quality of your book, so let's get started!

Writing Headlines

Think you know a headline? Most advisers and schools completely miss this - and then miss the chance for readers to actually read your pages. We show you the basics, starting with what a headline ISN'T. What is the importance of headlines? How to make them? See some examples as we go through why a good headline changes the game for a page or spread.

Writing Photo Captions

Every yearbook is filled with photos. Few yearbooks take the time to write photo captions to identify who's in images and what are they doing here. Tell Stories in the Yearbook

Our challenge: not just what stories will you tell but HOW MANY will you tell this year? And it's easy. Watch this lesson for the WHY and HOW of storytelling, including making a story list (have one?) and getting started.

Using Social Media

These days nearly everyone is on social media, yet many yearbook staffs have no presence there. That's a big oversight, missing a chance to reach your audience on a regular basis. This lesson covers the what, how and WHY of using social media with a student activity at the end to get your group thinking and planning. Watch for our unique takes on using this important element.

Interviewing

Many students are intimidated by interviewing, going out and asking questions to gain information. Yet a great yearbook needs that information to tell more stories.. Watch this lesson to share the importance of this exercise, and to show kids how easy this is with a fun student activity that is never the same twice.

Page Ladder and Organization

Your page ladder is the road map of your yearbook. How's that road looking? Smooth or full of potholes? We discuss how to organize your book (two main ways) and the importance of the page ladder, including the old fashioned paper version...

Photo Basics

You can immediately improve the quality of your book, just by taking better photos. And ANYONE can do this with ANY camera at your disposal. Watch our simple tips and then start taking better pictures TODAY. We start with a strong suggestion for schools today regarding those smartphones...
